Arts & Sciences is looking for an experienced and versatile Instructional Specialist (IS) to provide leadership, vision, and expertise in the design and delivery of remote and technology-assisted courses. The IS will work closely with leadership to set the pedagogical direction for remote and technology-assisted learning and will champion innovative instructional content design incorporating proven academic pedagogical principles and learning-enhanced technologies in support of a wide variety of academic programs. The IS will provide direct consultation to faculty on course design and best practices on topics of interest including interactive engagement, digital pedagogy, and inclusive teaching strategies. Will promote the visibility of available resources to faculty and staff and collaborate with colleagues from across the university, including the Center for Teaching and Learning, the College Office, the Graduate School, and A&S Computing and Technology.

Assist with design and development of remote, hybrid and classroom-based courses

  • Partner with Arts & Sciences faculty and staff in the design and development of instructional content for remote, hybrid and classroom-based courses, analyzing learning needs and outcomes, building content modules and creating interactive media content in various learning systems and platforms using a variety of software applications, in a manner consistent with pedagogical best practices
  • Collaborate with instructors to transition existing classroom-based content to a remote/hybrid delivery format
  • Ensure course design and course materials meet accessibility standards; provide accessibility training and assistance for instructors
  • Manage multiple design projects concurrently; create project plans, manage timelines, and coordinate with team members and partners in the Center for Teaching and Learning, the College Office and A&S Computing and Technology to meet project deliverables
  • Participate in course evaluation/assessment process to ensure quality guidelines and desired learning outcomes are being met; make recommendations to develop a wide variety of learning assessment instruments

Assist/Support innovative teaching and learning strategy development

  • Research and recommend new and emerging technologies, instructional design theories and models and their potential application to instructional opportunities; design and produce learning materials regarding trends, to support teaching and learning needs
  • Lead projects to develop innovative uses of technology for research, student learning and/or community building
  • Design, develop, and deliver workshops and training to inform faculty and staff on pedagogical applications and effective use and integration of technology tools for online, blended, and classroom delivery
  • Participate in accreditation activities related to remote and hybrid programs

Promote innovative learning and facilitate online course delivery

  • Serve as the primary point of contact in Arts & Sciences for learning resources
  • Assist in development of additional resources for faculty and students
  • Collaborate with SME’s and information technology staff to resolve issues related to technology use in teaching, including application assessment, pedagogy, deployment methodologies, and integration strategies
  • Represent Arts & Sciences in campus wide and state and national discussions and initiatives focused on online learning
