Graduate Advisory Council Guidelines
The Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) Advisory Council advises the Vice Dean of Graduate Education and the OGS team on curriculum, policies, programming, strategic initiatives, and emerging issues and opportunities related to graduate education in Arts & Sciences. The Council also provides initial reviews of curricular and policy proposals before they advance for consideration by the faculty of Arts & Sciences, the Dean of Arts & Sciences, and the Office of the Provost.
The OGS Advisory Council consists of the Vice Dean of Graduate Education, OGS leadership, Arts & Sciences staff, and graduate faculty members from each of the following areas: natural sciences & math, social sciences, and humanities. The faculty shall elect Advisory Council faculty members following a nomination process each year. When possible, a graduate student liaison forms part of the Council as well.

- Functions/Duties:
- Reviews all proposals for new and updated graduate courses and programs
- May recommend to the Faculty changes in the policies and requirements for graduate degrees
- Initiates proposals and recommendations to appropriate Faculty bodies and administrators for new curricula that it deems beneficial
- Makes recommendations to the Vice Dean of Graduate Education, the Faculty Council, and the Faculty on policies and procedures
- Considers other matters as directed to it by the Faculty Council, the Dean of Arts & Sciences, the Office of Graduate Studies, or the Vice Dean of Graduate Education
- Regularly reports to the Faculty
