Teaching Innovation Awards for Teaching and Practice Track Faculty

Call for proposals

The annual Teaching Innovation Awards provide full-time teaching-track and practice-track faculty with an opportunity to seek project funding to advance their pedagogical work. We are especially interested in supporting projects that will help faculty develop innovative approaches to teaching and that allow faculty to make an extraordinary impact in their work. Each year’s awardees will form a cohort that meets over the course of the year to share what they are learning. One of these teaching innovation grants will be funded by the Center for the Literary Arts and should focus on creative practice and pedagogy.

Eligibility

All full-time teaching-track and practice-track faculty are eligible to apply.

Grant Amount

We will consider projects with budgets of up to $5,000. Awards will be competitive.

Proposal Guidelines

  • Proposals should describe the ways in which the grants will help the faculty develop new approaches to teaching that enrich and/or expand the pedagogy in their department and discipline. These are for proposals that go beyond the development of a single course.

  • Proposals should be no more than three pages in length, should include the following sections, and be submitted via e-mail to Abdul Ursani as a Word or PDF attachment:

    • Introduction/Background that shows how the proposed project relates to the faculty member’s current pedagogical work and provides broader perspectives on the project’s contributions to the proposer’s department and discipline. The proposed project should go beyond the development of a single course.
    • Project description, with a particular focus on how it advances innovative approaches to pedagogical practices in the proposer’s field.
    • Anticipated outcomes: What are the measurable impacts that the project will have on specific classes (both new and existing)? How can the project have an impact on the wider pedagogical community?
    • Budget for the project with sufficient detail to allow the committee to understand the costs of each component of the work.
    • Letter of support from the faculty member’s chair or director.

Evaluation committee will include the vice dean of faculty affairs, the vice dean of diversity and faculty development, the vice dean of undergraduate affairs, and two appointed teaching professors.

Deadline

The annual deadline for proposal submissions is February 15.
